An Artful Way of Drying Rice

I never really thought before in terms of highland and lowland culture.  The people of the Cordillera Mountains would consider me a lowlander, being a city girl and all.  Interesting to think about how cultural customs in the mountains are shaped by their altitude and relative isolation.  Time definitely moves slower there, and I believe there’s a lot to appreciate about that.  Take for instance the way people treat an everyday staple, such as rice.  The way the highland farmers dry their rice grains at the side of the road stopped me in my tracks.  So much care was taken to arrange the lovely grains in these long rows.  A sublime connection between people and food at its source.
